Early Work: A Website for a Client’s 70’s Mopar Muscle Car
In one of my early projects in website design and development I created a website for a client’s 1970 Dodge Challenger Mopar muscle car. I started the site with sketches, then a Photoshop comp, then set it all to XHTML and wrote the CSS to style.
As the Pink Panther cartoon series was big during this era I searched for a font for the header that reflected that branding. I created some “smoke” for the car, outlining it to give a “breaking out” appearance. The challenge was giving the site a playful feel yet still communicating the serious power of the car.
For the layout I used a flexible-width option and as the site was content-lean I reduced the nav emphasis. Headline fonts were created using the CSS background font replacement technique.
My client had many organizations and associations he showed his car with and he asked that they be prominently displayed. Creating a right column just for this purpose, the list was emphasized with pink bullets.
